Contemporary desert home frames views of beautiful Pima Canyon

Contemporary Living Room

This spectacular contemporary interior renovation project is the work of John Senhauser Architects, located in Pima Canyon, a major canyon in the Santa Catalina Mountains of Tucson, Arizona. The homeowner initially contracted the architects to assist them with material selection and to design a guest bathroom for their newly purchased home. Yet, after they began the project, the scope of the project became more detailed to include a re-design of the kitchen and bathrooms, fireplaces, staircase, custom millwork, doors, guardrails, and lighting.

“The home is loosely defined by a series of thick, parallel walls supporting planar roof elements floating above the desert floor,” states the architects. Their goal was to not only reinforce the existing architecture of this contemporary desert home, but to clearly articulate its meaning. To address this, they began with a limited color palette of desert neutrals, which created harmony between interior spaces. Most of the interior details share a common element, which overall, provides an aesthetically rich composition.
