Gorgeous modern farmhouse radiates with warmth in North Carolina

modern-farmhouse-exterior

Samsel Architects designed this light-filled modern farmhouse as a relaxing refuge for its owners, located in Mill Spring, North Carolina. The 7,400 square foot, six-bedroom, six-and-a-half bath dwelling is nestled in the countryside, a horse property with beautiful rolling pastures and a mountainous landscape. The homeowner’s design request was to create a cozy atmosphere for themselves and their dogs. They also wished to maintain a comfortable feeling when entertaining friends and family.

There was a dilapidated home already existing on the site, which the project team had torn down to start fresh. The new residence was reoriented on the property, taking advantage of the sight lines of the barn to the west and the pastures and pond to the north. Starting from scratch also enhanced access to the barn, vehicle circulation and parking. Above: The product used to gray the cedar is called LifeTime Wood Treatment.

This understated, but sophisticated equestrian estate was constructed with virtually no disturbance to the land. With the preservation of the trees on this property, the house visually blends into the landscape. Maintaining a low profile, the house forms an L-shape around the front drive. The exterior facade features a weathered wood aesthetic, with expansive windows offering both natural light and views. Also on this property is a swimming pool, two-acre man-made pond stocked with fish and a garden that can sustain the family for a year!
