A merry and bright DIY holiday mantle was created by using silver and gold lettering for the artwork on canvas and then applying Christmas lights through the back of it. The mantle was then decorated with inexpensive holiday ornaments and deep green velvet stockings.
Another great DIY project for the holiday season! Apply chalkboard paint to a heavy canvas, then you can change out the writing to fit with the seasons.
If you don’t have a fireplace a clever solution is to create a DIY faux mantel wall hanging comprised of chalkboard paint. This one was designed by Brian Patrick Flynn, but you can also create the same effect by picking up supplies from your local hardware store (drop cloth, drapery hardware and chalkboard paint). You can also just hang a piece of chalkboard that is the size of a fireplace on your wall, up to 48″ x 32″.
