INT2 Architecture, completed a fascinating two-story home renovation project, located in the village of Lake Malakhovskoye, in the region of Moscow, Russia. The clients wanted all of the rooms in the 2,152 square foot (200 square meters) home to be stylistically different, with both floors of the home being feature-rich. On the basement level, the designers applied a grunge kitsch style through exemplified through the wood beams on the ceiling, red brick walls in the entertainment room/bar area and a metal roll-up door to conceal a spacious storage area. On this level there is also a spacious laundry facility with a cozy nook for sewing and a sauna with full bathroom amenities. On the ground level, you will notice that the style is more modern and minimalist. This floor encompasses a living room, kitchen/dining space, study and powder room. The upper level features an altogether different style from the other floors, offering bright spaces and Scandinavian aesthetics. This floor houses a master bedroom retreat, children’s bedroom with a mezzanine level, guest bedroom with two built-in bunk beds to sleep four, and a bathroom. On this level, the design team came to a challenge of treating varying ceiling heights from the outside walls to the center of the home. To not have disproportionate spaces and lose usable space, the resolution was to create a mezzanine floor in both the children’s and guest rooms, where the sleeping quarters are situated.
