This incredible modern concrete home is an expansion project carried out by design studio Bak Architects, located in Vicente López, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The original home lacked quality and a sense of place because of the modifications that had been done prior to the renovation. The architects took on the challenge, wanting to improve the current situation of a house that was way too compact and small compared to the spacious site that it is nestled on. The additions created 1,291 square feet (120 square meters) of living space, which includes a new bedroom with en-suite bathroom and a new wardrobe, an outdoor space to grill lunch and lounge in the open air and a multi-purpose room at the back of the property. The social area of the original house was located on the ground floor, with double height ceilings. The scope of the project for the enlargement was to make one independent volume that is separated from the original house by a courtyard, connected on the first floor by a narrow bridge. This enabled the ground floor to not lose a visual connection to the garden from the original social area. In this way, open air activities can be conducted under one roof.
