East Village Duplex is the renovation of an inefficient and outdated apartment for a young west coast couple by General Assembly, located in New York City, New York. Although lacking in character, the designers employed some clever design techniques, making the space much brighter and more habitable. The first step in the renovation project was to open the kitchen up to the living area and re-organize the layout to make it more conducive for cooking and entertaining. On the upper level, there were originally two bedrooms, so they were combined into a master bedroom retreat. The bathroom space was increased and a laundry area was incorporated into the design scheme, in addition to functional storage space and more closets. To improve the circulation flow on the upstairs level, full height sliding pocket doors were added, which also helped to brighten the hallway. Modern details were fused with richer materials such as dark flooring and a wall clad in reclaimed wood, which made the spaces feel cozy yet with clean lines, bringing some “West Coast vibe into a new East Coast home.”
A modern update and improved efficiency was given to this clean lined, budget-minded kitchen, which includes Pebble Caesarstone countertops and pendant lighting from Potterybarn. With an open plan concept for the kitchen, living and dining areas, and floor to ceiling windows, this is a perfect place for entertaining. Your thoughts, could you entertain here?
