This modern and cozy beach house was designed by Jill Neubauer Architects in collaboration with building company Cape Associates. Conceived as a summer vacation home designed for a blended family of eight, this getaway overlooks Cape Cod Bay in North Truro, Massachusetts. A LEED compliant home, highlights includes expansive living spaces and breathtaking ocean views. The dwelling is constructed with sustainable and non-toxic materials, and powered with alternative energy systems. This includes geothermal heating and cooling, photovoltaic (solar) electricity and a residential scale wind turbine.

Expansive sliding glass doors on either side of the home allows for fresh ocean breezes to flow through. The flat roof offers a fabulous roof-top deck with a fireplace, perfect for entertaining. Interior finishes include wooden walls and stone floors. Forehand + Lake was responsible for the interior design of this project.

The house is anchored behind the top of the coastal bank, which creates a buffer from the extreme conditions of the site. The plan is organized along the north/south axis, with living spaces pushed towards the water and service spaces lining the eastern side of the house. Additionally, the house is split along its east/west axis, with private spaces enjoying southern exposure and public spaces occupying the northern half. The rectangular footprint parallels the bluff and beach, offering expansive views from all rooms.

What We Love: The architects did an incredible job of designing this beach house to take full advantage of its site and maximize views of the Atlantic Ocean. Open and airy living spaces offer plenty of opportunities for intimate quite time and areas for entertaining family and friends. A wonderful master bedroom suite comes complete with an open air bathing area, while still allowing for privacy. The best part about this home is the rooftop deck. A comfortable space for relaxing while enjoying the water views and for spending time with guests.
